Careers Europe - Migrant Communities Information Resource Created in 1992 as a joint initiative between Careers Bradford and the Careers Service Branch, Careers Europe is the UK National Resource Centre for International Careers Information. It provides resources to careers services and other information and advisory services throughout the UK. The information is provided in a variety of media and used by jobseekers and careers advisors alike. THE CHALLENGE Careers Europe was producing a resource for careers services to use within the West Yorkshire region, providing information about living, working and studying for EU8 migrants, Asylum Seekers and Refugees. They had a tight budget, and were restricted to using the 8 EU accession languages and twelve other languages for asylum seekers and refugees. THE SOLUTION OSW advised on the formats available to the client for their purpose, and on the most useful languages to translate into for Asylum Seeker and Refugee texts so that they could target as many people as possible . Through meeting with the client, we were able to establish their needs and alleviate their concerns regarding different languages and fonts. We were also able to discuss ways of maximising the client’s budget whilst still retaining the focus and end goal of the project. Careers Europe were able to produce the resource and its success has been such that they have returned to OSW with a view to launching a national product, and even increased the number of languages to include Portuguese, Bulgarian and Romanian. Careers Europe has also taken advantage of OSW’s translation services for documents they have received from abroad, and continue to return to us with all their translation needs.
